Doctors didn't know if the operation would work, but in order to save Melissa Benoit's life, they had to try. Melissa was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at a young age and, at 32-years-ol, was infected with the flu. The illness put her in the hospital fighting for her life. Her lungs were resistant to the medication for her recovery so doctors had to replace them. Melissa survived on machines six days while they waited for an organ donor. Now Melissa says if doctors hadn't acted, she wouldn't be alive.
