The Spirit of God Seals Us - Thursday's Dose - 17th August 2017

“The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” - (John 14:26).

Thoughts for Today

When we accept the sacrifice of Jesus for the remission of our sins, and seek the forgiveness that He made possible through His death on the cross, we receive the Holy Spirit. At that moment, the Spirit of God seals us (see 2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:13; 4:30). The Holy Spirit guarantees that our status as God’s own will never change. Because His seal is secure, our salvation is sure.

While the sealing of the Holy Spirit occurs only once—at the time of our surrender to Him—the filling of our lives with God’s Spirit is something that can and should happen continuously. This filling is dependent upon our response to God’s gracious gift of salvation and our desire to obey Jesus as our Lord. As we are filled, God’s Spirit guides us, admonishes us, corrects us, comforts us, and leads us away from evil and toward the good plans and purposes of God.

While every Christian is sealed by the Holy Spirit, not every Christian chooses to be continuously filled by the Spirit. God waits for us to open ourselves to Him and yield our will to His will. It is our responsibility and privilege to invite the Holy Spirit to do His work in us and through us every day.

When the apostle Paul wrote, “Be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18), he used a Greek verb tense that means “to be constantly or continually filled.” We live in the healing power of the Holy Spirit when we are continually filled with Him.

Let me be very clear on one aspect of the Spirit’s filling. At the time of salvation, a person receives the whole of the person of the Holy Spirit, not just part of Him. But allowing Him to control our words, actions, and decisions is a daily process. We must submit every part of our lives, every day, to the Spirit’s control. Have you yielded all of your life to the working of the Holy Spirit, or have you cornered His presence and power into one small area of Your life?

Why don’t you take time today to confess and expose the areas in your life in which you have shut the Holy Spirit out? Why don’t you open that room in your heart to His healing power? Let Him break down the stronghold that is keeping you a prisoner. Then give praise to God for Jesus who made it possible for God’s Spirit to dwell within you.

Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit, who has sealed me and binds me to You. Thank You for the security I enjoy through Your Spirit. Thank You for promising us a Comforter to dwell within us. Help me today, Father, to open my entire life to the control of Your Spirit. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."

Have a Blessed Thursday and God Bless you.
