God Calls Men to be the Leaders - Sunday's Dose - 8th October 2017

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers” - (1 Peter 3:7).

Thoughts for Today

Our society today does not embrace many of God's edicts with open arms. And when it comes to the subject of men and their role in the family, the world usually turns up its collective nose at what the Bible says and pronounces it antiquated and old-fashioned.

However, there is nothing out of date about what the Bible says. “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything” (Ephesians 5:22-24). There are times when people misunderstand or misinterpret God's Word. Yet, when God calls men to be the leaders of their families, He does so unapologetically. The trouble begins when others mistakenly determine what it means to be a leader.

When the Bible says men are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church (see Ephesians 5:25-30), we must look at this relationship carefully. Jesus clearly led His disciples with love, stemming from a heart of servant hood.

To lead anyone truly, we must first understand what it means to be a servant. God did not call men to lord over women; rather, He called men to be humble servants who put their wives first in all decisions.

In fulfilling God's calling to lead their wives, men must view this position with high regard. It takes strength and wisdom, both of which come in ample supply to a heart that is yielded to the Holy Spirit. It takes tenderness and kindness, both of which are crucial to developing a servant's heart.

Being called the leader of the home is an awesome privilege, but so is being a servant. As you serve those you love, ask God to teach you how to love your wife the way Christ loved the Church, and to be the kind of leader who honors God in the way you live.

Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father,
Help me [my husband] to be the leader and the man You have called me [him] to be. Help us to hold our roles in high esteem, so that Christ will be glorified. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."

Have a Blessed Sunday and God Bless you.
