O Lord GOD, Who am I? - Tuesday's Dose - 25th July 2017

"David said to Saul, `Who am I, and what is my life or my father's family in Israel, that I should be the king's son-in-law?'" - 1 Samuel 18:18 NASB.

Thoughts for Today

David had become a hero. Although just a shepherd boy, he had defeated the mighty giant, Goliath, and immediately led Israel's army into battle.

But as the people continued to praise David, King Saul became jealous and afraid. He developed an insidious plan: He would have David marry his daughter, Merab, secretly hoping that the Philistines would eliminate his young rival.

But, while Saul plotted, David became overwhelmed with the amazing transformation that had taken place. Reflecting on God's blessings, David felt humbled. However, Saul took David's reaction as an indication that he didn't feel worthy to have Merab as his wife, so he gave her to another man.

Eventually, the conflict between Saul and David led to civil war, with David emerging as victor. Considering all that God had done for him, David felt that he should build a "house" for God (2 Samuel 7:1-2). Instead, God told him it would be his son who would build Him a house.

God reminded David of his origins: He had taken David "from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel." He had given him victory over his enemies and promised, "I will make you a great name" - (2 Samuel 7:8-9). Once again, David was overwhelmed. He reacted, "Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?" - (2 Samuel 7:18).

The Bible is honest to report David's mistakes. But what set him apart was his attitude—his humility. Clearly, David had a heart that pleased God.

Today, don't take the blessings of God for granted. Pause, and reflect on all that He has done for you. No matter what you've accomplished or what awards you might have received, remember that everything is the result of His blessing. May your heart overflow with gratitude.

Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for all that You've done for me. I worship and praise You. I offer myself as a living sacrifice, dedicated to serving You. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."

Have a Blessed Tuesday and God Bless you.
