A U.S. Marine, Lance Cpl. William "Kyle" Carpenter, who saved a fellow Marine in Afghanistan by jumping on a live grenade became the eighth living recipient of the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq and Afghanistan. He lost his right eye and suffered many other injuries that required dozens of surgeries and a lengthy period of rehabilitation.
